Check it out, Cully and Jami kicked ass down South.  For those who are not familiar with these long, insane races, the racers present were a “who’s who” of endurance racing.  And Cully finished 23rd!    Next up for him, TransIowa, another insane race of 300 miles on the gravel roads of Iowa this weekend.

Not to be out done, Jami finished 4th in the 35 mile race, which was exclusive single track.

4 Skins took place in the 3rd Annual Sylvan Island Stampede...with outstanding results!

Todd and Darcy each grabbed a 2nd, with Jami and Jean finishing 3rd and 7th!!

A few words from CT....

Saturday March 31st Me(Cully aka CT),and Rockin Toddy G headed south to do the Ouachita Challenge. Coming along for support were Jami (aka fiancé) and Toddy's mom and pop, Stormin' Norm and Janice. The trip down consisted of torrential down pours and terrible winds for most of the way through Iowa and Misery. Things started looking bright once we hit Arkansas and the forecast was for 80 and sunny so we were not worried to much. Woke up Saturday to clear blue skies and chilly temps but it was warming up fast. Got to the start in plenty of time to chat with the other Iowa guys who showed up, Brian Eppen, Squirrel, Dennis Grelk, Kerkove, and Carl Buchanan. The start as always rolled out slow on pavement then regrouped on the first gravel section for the official start but this year we got to the gravel and they just told us to go, glad I was up front with Eppen at that point. We took off down the first section of gravel, about 4 miles worth, cruising along about 20-25 MPH. The group(200 strong) stayed together till the first climb then a gap separated about 20-30 of us from the rest, both Todd and myself made the cut so we were ready for the climb to the first section of single track. I made the first group of about 10 into the single track in about 6th spot, good, cruised through the first section called Big Brushy no problem, getting my groove on, settling in. Going into the next section, Blowout Mountain, Jami tells me I am in 4th, awesome! Head up and over Blowout, this section really does blow, lots of REALLY rough sections and some hike a bike, not much fun, kept willing Todd to ride light, I think he is  finally learning, he had no mechanicals, which is very hard to do at this place. Got over Blowout no problem, came out with 2 other guys and we worked together on the next gravel section. Going into the next section of single track I got up front and pushed the pace climbing the next section, getting away from the other 2 slightly coming to the next gravel section. I cruised awhile on the gravel eating and hydrating and up came 2 new guys who i jumped on with and we started really hammering , working really well together through the rest of the gravel and onto a pavement section. i could see 2 guys up the road, we caught them, turned out to be Eppen and another guy, they said that there was only one guy up the road so our group was 2nd thru 6th place. We came into a town called Sims where I was planning to switch hydrapaks and get re-supplied which I did but nobody else in the group stopped so I was in no mans land for the rest of the road section. I could see them up the road but couldn't close the gap, so I just maintained till the next single track. Going into the single track I was cramping some so I just tried to cruise and ride through it, eventually I did and started picking up the pace catching 2 of the guys in front of me and coming in a few minutes behind 1,2,and 3(Eppen) in 4th place, my best finish at this race. Todd came in 20th, smiling, great race for him as well. The next day Todd, Jami and I rode a trail called the Quachita Lake Vista trail for a little recoup from the race, it is a 20 mile out and back trail that was very nice around the lake, a perfect ending to a great trip, Norm and Janice drove up within minutes with cold beer in the cooler. 2006 RAGBRAI Bus Driver of the Year announced!! Team Skin's Cecil wins again!

For the second year in a row and the fifth time in his career, Cecil Brown, a Ragbrai bus driver, has won an international bus safety rodeo.

“It really felt good, because everybody likes to win,” said Brown this week, days after he captured the conventional school bus division at the 36th Annual School Bus Driver Safety Competition.

The contest is sponsored by the National School Transportation Association. Hundreds of bus drivers from across the United States and Canada competed at a ski resort near Dubuque.

The drivers qualified for the contest by winning or coming in second in their respective Ragbrai safety rodeos. During the competition, they are given a written test and then get the chance to show their skills behind the wheel during road events like “backup alley” and “simulated railroad crossing.”

The terrain at the resort had an impact on the competition's course, said Brown, who has been Team Skin's bus driver for about 3 years.

“It was tough. The whole parking lot was on an angle on the side of the hill. It was a little different. It was a bit difficult to do the backup, because you can easily stall,” Brown explained.

Overall, the veteran driver has won four international titles in the conventional bus division and one title in the smaller bus division. He said he plans to keep competing in safety rodeos.

"The pressure is on all the time. I never take it for granted, because I know that it's just as tough next time,” Brown said.

Not only is Brown a legend behind the wheel on RAGBRAI...check out him out in action, when not behind the wheel!

Here are a just a few results...keep an eye out for Team Skin racers finishing high throughout the Midwest!!

Kendall Young Classic June 25th

The Sport race set off with fair conditions and most said the course was
perfect. With 2 laps remaining the skys opened up again and made for some
tricky riding in places. This didn't slow down Dominic Moraneic of Atlas/Core
Fitness as he led from start to finish with Todd Gillihan (Team Skin) spinning
his single speed close behind. These two were the class of the field outpacing
Jubil Young and Steven Reynolds for third and fourth. The women started 30
seconds after the men and Darcy Sanford (Team Skin) proceeded to march through
the mens feild, passing 10 of them, on her way to a commanding victory over Jane
Riessen (Mercy/Specialized).

Team Skin showed great early form on the roadie circut at the DICE Cody Classic Act II. Team Manager/Rider, Todd Gillihan, shown above pulling along DICE rider Bruce Grell, (www.healthyhabitsqc.com), was the consummate teammate, leading out Team Skin newcomer, Jeff Dullard to his highest placing in a road event in his short career.

Dullard (shown above) had this say following the race...

"I still tried to position myself as best I could; I knew other blokes would be suffering, they rode the Cody I, too, and had a hard day," he said.

"At the end my (Team Skin) teammates did a heap of work. Basically you just have to name the whole team, they did a fantastic job. They kept the race together; they were in breakaways, they led the group in the last couple of laps."

Stay tuned for more great results from the Skins on the road circuit...also check out the Skins tearing up the Mountain Bike scene as well!! Cully pulled a 3rd, Jami a 1st, Todd a 3rd and Jeff a 14th place finish!!

Strawberry Point, Iowa

It has become something of a tradition that Todd Gillihan, manager of the Iowa based TEAM SKIN, gathers his troops for a survival camp in early February. The formula has proven so successful that other teams have adopted the team bonding idea, and over the last few weeks we have read about cyclists running around in woods, playing games of paintball, hanging off cliffs, or just enjoying some quality time together in spa-resorts without race-stress.

Gillihan is known to possess an innovative mind, so we were waiting for him to pop up with something new and interesting. Already being comfortable with putting his riders to the test, military style, this year "general" Gillihan decided to take it a step further.

Not long after the dates for the first training camp were sent out to the riders and personnel, another invitation was dropped into each of the team members mailbox. Todd was giving the partners of all team members the opportunity to get to know each other during a two day meeting in Backbone State Park. A dinner and party would take place over the last weekend of the riders' training camp.

We at Team Skin® would like to thank everyone for writing and inquiring about our team jersey...unfortunately we do not have any available at this time. They are currently on back order until the 2009 season, or until we have a roster change...Please note, beware of replica/fake Skin jersey's out on the free market...The Skin jersey's are made from a fabric that is a blend of super 200s merino wool and worsted spun Mongolian cashmere. It is so rare that they are individually woven for each Team Skin member when they join the team, with each their name woven into the selvedge of the fabric. The fabric is woven by master weavers on 100-year old looms in Huddersfield, England, thus making them a true keepsake.

Jason McCartney has decided to move on from behind the shadows of Lance Armstrong and George Hincapie, and start the 2006 season with some up and comers in the world of cycling. He has signed on with Team Skin of Coralville, Iowa, after accepting what sounds to be a fairly lucrative contract.

McCartney, pictured above waving his new team flag, along with several "skins" had this to say about the deal..."the Skins said they would pick up my beverage tab, not only on Tomrv, but also Ragbrai...and they might also have available funds to pay my JingleCross entry next fall!! How could I turn that down?"

We in the press have to agree...

Newton, Iowa

Cully Todd's first place finish at the final Iowa Cross Series event held in Newton on November 13th is currently under protest due to some very odd circumstances.

An AP photographer, Ted Bleimehl, shooting the race, snapped the picture above during the third lap of the event on Sunday. "Cully was well in front of the pack, and with no one around, he said something about phoning home?" said Bleimehl. He continued snapping photos, and much to his disbelief, he could not believe what he found while developing his film...he immediately contacted the race organizers and WADA.

Dr. Gordon Goettsch, Team Skin doctor and souigner, vehemently denies any use of EPO or any other baned substance by any of his riders. "Cully promised me he was not using EPO, and the tests prove this...but he did not mention using ET."

"Elevated red blood cell levels, gained by using EPO or blood doping methods, give an advantage because oxygen-rich blood cells allow the muscles to work for longer, and to recover more quickly after extreme effort." said Goettsch.

"Using ET obviously needs to be studied as well, as it's advantages are obvious in cyclocross for bunny hopping the barriers."

Team Skin President and CEO, Todd Gillihan, had no comment and referred all questions to Team Skin council Jamie.
